I did my undergraduate studies (in mathematics) at Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, UK. I obtained a PhD in mathematics from the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) in 1992, with Selim Tuncel, in the area of Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems. I co-founded (with Ted Mahavier) the math help web site MathNerds (www.mathnerds.com) in 1996. I moved to New Orleans, LA, in 1996, and have been a math faculty member at Xavier University of Louisiana since 1998. My current research interests include asymptotic expansions, classical analysis and combinatorics. My teaching interests are currently centered on redesigning the first year math courses (including developmental math), in order to improve student success and retention. I am the director of a 3-year, $800,000 project funded by the Louisiana Board of Regents to carry out this program at Xavier University. I have begun using WeBWorK in spring 2009, and I am currently experimenting with a system that directly connects WeBWorK (through a modified "Email your instructor" button) to the MathNerds Mentoring Network web site.
