Dear Professor Jones,

I am writing to express interest in graduate study at ASU.  I just submitted my
application, and wrote your name where I was asked if I have consulted with
anyone in the department. Coincidentally we are interested in the same type of
mathematics. I hope it is appropriate to attach my personal statement.
