The installer is properly identifying the distribution, but that distribution
is not one we officially support.  The installer should have died there and
instead it did the best it could (which had some problems, as you saw).  I will
do some modifications to make sure that the installer fails if it can't find a
distribution file.  If you want you could make distribution file for trisquel. 
I would start by copying the one for Ubuntu 14.04.  (See the files in the dists
folder for what I am talking about.)  

I'm going to mark this bug as invalid because we don't officially support your
distribution.  However, feel free to keep using it and post in the forums if
you need help.
