Try doing 

Library/WHFreeman/Holt_linear_algebra/Chaps_1-4/4.2.25.pg

[1 0 0] [0 1 0] is accepted as an extension, but [0 1 0] [1 0 0] is not!  Nor
are other legitimate linear combinations, though [-5 0 0] [0 3 0] is.

Needless to say, this is pretty confusing to students.
