This isn't my strong suit, so maybe someone else can correct me, but the
issue is that the verification of the hostname is failing.  So when you
change from the ip address to localhost its trying to verify two different
things somehow (localhost vs. whatever hostname it decides is associated to
the ip).

I tested the pull request on a couple of machines, including one with a
self signed certificate and server url https://localhost, so hopefully it
will work for you.
