Gage, M., Pizer, A., Roth, V. (2002). WeBWorK: Generating, delivering, and checking math homework via the Internet. In ICTM2 International Congress for Teaching of Mathematics at the Undergraduate Level, Hersonissos, Crete, Greece.

One of the project's first publications, this article introduces WeBWorK. In the section on early assessment efforts, the results of interviews, observations, and electronic surveys with students are reported. Positive feedback centered primarily on the value of immediate feedback; negative feedback focused largely on entering answer correctly into the system (syntax issues). Review of the system's records indicate that University of Rochester students completed "virtually all of their homework sets until their answers are nearly 100% correct."
