Professor of Mathematics at University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) where I have held an appointment since 1975. PhD from University of Michigan where I was a recipient of the Myers award for best dissertation in Mathematics in 1975. I've published over 50 papers in the areas of finite group theory, incidence and Galois geometry and coding theory. I have been a W.K. Kellogg Fellow (1982-85), was a recipient of a Pew National Fellowship for Carnegie Scholars (1999-2000). I published the first online course portfolio for a university level course which documented my introduction of a course in Mathematical Problem Solving at UCSC which can be viewed at the Gallery of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning hosted by the Knowledge Media Laboratory of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. I am the Principal Investigator for the Monterey Bay Area Mathematics Project and the Santa Cruz site of the (California) Mathematics Testing Project (MDTP) I am also currently co-chair of the MDTP work group. CRC Press published my textbook, Advanced Linear Algebra, in 2010. I have self-published (through lulu.com) two genuine etextbooks, Introduction to Groups, Rings, and Fields and Elementary Linear Algebra.
