Professor File enjoys teaching courses in the areas of fluids, dynamic response, and numerical procedures. His favorite subject to lecture is computational techniques in physical science. He also enjoys discussing the philosophy of physics and the consequences of differing interpretations of quantum theory.

His research focus during his graduate studies pertained to the aerodynamic performance of the helicopter lifting rotor. While pursuing his doctoral degree, Dr. File developed a novel approach to determining the efficiency of the induced-power of the lifting rotor by use of a finite-state model. Currently, his focus for research is concerned with the numerical algorithms of high-order methods for computational science. In particular, the convergence rate and error estimation of finite-element methods as well as stability and numerical accuracy of computational fluid dynamics solutions.

Dr. File has published research in internationally recognized conference proceedings such as American Helicopter Society International and European Rotorcraft Forum. He enjoys mentoring high school students through events such as Explore Engineering Day at Washington University in St Louis where he presented a short course on wind energy and led experiments in constructing miniature scale wind turbines. He was chosen as a guest judge for the 2013 American Helicopter Society Midwest Region Lichten Competition which encourages researchers who have not previously presented the results of their work at a national forum to publish their findings.

Dr. File is married to his high school sweetheart, Tabitha, with whom he has two beautiful girls: McKenzie and Amelia. He competes in archery tournaments and loves the outdoors. He also enjoys taking his family camping and fishing.

Dr. Chad File has served at Anderson University since 2013.
