Juan Salinas is an instructor of the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Mr. Salinas was born in northern Mexico and came to Texas when he was ten years old. He attended U.S. schools in Progreso and later in Weslaco Texas. Mr. Salinas obtained a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, a MS in Mathematical Sciences, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Leadership. He worked as an engineer in McAllen and Reynosa for five years and twelve years in K-12 public schools as a high school mathematics teacher. During that time, Mr. Salinas coached UIL mathematics, number sense, and calculator in the before school, during lunch, after school, and on Saturdays. On a yearly basis, his teams competed in District, Regional, and State competitions where they placed among the top in the State of Texas.

Mr. Salinas joined the Department of Organization and School Leadership in 2016 where he conducted research on STEM education with faculty and doctoral students. He extended his STEM research to community engagement and joined the College of Sciences and the Office of Community Engagement & Assessment in 2017 as a research assistant where he worked on program evaluation and instrument development and validation. His research interests include Hispanic-Serving Institutions, STEM education and leadership, and faculty development in community-engaged scholarship and learning.
