Dr Campa received both his Laurea (EE, 1996 with a period at Strathclyde University) and PhD (Robotics and Automation, 2000, with a period at Georgia Tech) from the University of Pisa, Italy.

From 2000 to 2008 he has served as faculty at West Virginia University. His research at WVU involved system identification, adaptive and nonlinear control, fault tolerant systems, machine vision, and sensor fusion, especially applied to UAVs. This research resulted in around 30 peer-reviewed articles in international journals, about 60 research papers for international conferences, and a couple of book chapters.

Since January 2009 he works for MathWorks, where he is currently a Research Engineer and is responsible for strategic activities for educational robotics and mathematics.
