Ken Luther has been teaching mathematics for over twenty years at Valparaiso University, and recently survived an eight-year tour of duty as chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He is an “academic mutt”, with a B.S. in Mathematics from Mount Union College (1988), M.S. in Mathematics from University of Delaware (1991), and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Indiana University (1998). He worked for 2.5 years in the Underwater Acoustics Division of the Naval Research Laboratory before his Ph.D. work, and his research area is mathematical modeling of groundwater flow. He has been president of both the Indiana Water Resources Association and the Indiana Section of the Mathematical Association of America. He is a recipient of the Indiana MAA’s award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics.
