Set-Up

Schedule
Day 1 [June 23]: 9am - Welcome/introductions, Outline workshop. [JasonA] 9:30am - Computer set-up: make sure participants are on-line as needed, WeBWorK work courses are available, etc. [JasonA; DavideC, DickL, JeffH, JohnJ, MarilouM] 10am - What is a Model Course?—An Example and Thoughts [MarilouM] 11am - Break/coffee 11:15am - Finalize Course Teams [JasonA] 11:30am - Course Teams meet to outline their model course: - scope (textbook(s), syllabus) - materials to be produced (problem sets, hardcopies, use notes...) - organizational structure (naming conventions, directory structure...) 12:30pm - Lunch 1:30pm - Discussion: Finalizing Model Courses [MarilouM] - Bring model course formalization to closure 2:30pm - Course Teams meet to block out problem setsProblem group work on sets, collecting and blocking out problems that need to be written. [3:30pm - WeBWorK-Blackboard Building Block Demo] 5:30pm - Wrap-up: summary and discussion of each group's work [over some sort of minimal break type food]. 6:30pm - Break for dinner. Evening - Problem group work at participants' discretion. Day 2 [June 24]: 9am - Problem group work 10:30am - Break/coffee 11:00am - NPL discussion: issues, tips and tricks. Experiential information on successfully using the NPL, shortcomings that need/could be addressed. noon - Lunch 1:30pm - Problem writing and editing tips and tricks. 5 minute presentations on specific tips and ideas found by the different problem groups which are of broad usefulness. 2:00pm - Problem group work. 5:00pm - Discussion of application of problem assessment rubric to problems and sets being developed. 5:30pm - Wrap-up: summary and discussion of each group's work [over some sort of minimal break type food]. 6:30pm - Break for dinner. Evening - Problem group work at participants' discretion. Day 3 [June 25]: 9am - Problem group work 10:30am - Break/coffee 11am - Group presentations: about 10 min per group, showing content and work. Should bring out specific tips and ideas for a useful model course, allow suggestions for what else may be needed or useful. noon - Lunch 1:30pm - Problem group work 4:30pm - NPL discussion? 5:00pm - Discussion of application of problem assessment rubric to problems and sets being developed. 5:30pm - Wrap-up: summary and discussion of each group's work [over some sort of minimal break type food]. 6:30pm - Break for dinner.
