Before I re-invent the wheel, is there a command that counts the number of significant figures in a randomly generated number?

To my knowledge, no one has yet written a sig-fig checker, though I would love to have a copy if you do write it. (Our high school chemists would be very happy if we could grade sig-figs.)

There is actually a perl module that does this, with a few restrictions. A chemistry teacher at my school is now writing Sig Fig problems. I will post them to the CVS after they have been beta-tested.
