Hi,

What are the essential course files in webwork2 that should be backed up to have a minimal backup?

In webwork 1 we used to only backup the set definition files of all courses, and all DATA directories.

Since set definition files are no longer essential to the operation of WeBWorK 2 courses, you don't need to back them up. However, you do need to back up the course database, regardless of whether it is stored in the DATA directory or in an SQL database. An easy way to back up the course database is with the Course Administration database export tool. If you need to automate things, use the wwdb command-line utility. it is self-documented -- just take a look at the top of the webwork2/bin/wwdb file.

Here are the things I can think of that need to be backed up:

 

  • The course database
  • The DATA directory, which may contain database files
  • The course.conf file, if it exists
  • Any set definition files for sets that are not represented in the course database.
  • Any mail merge files (directory templates/email).
  • The scoring directory.

Thanks! What minimum mysql databadse privileges are needed to do the backup of the database (using mysqldump) is SELECT and LOCK TABLES enough?
