I think I've fixed the permissions problem that made it impossible to read the WeBWorK site news when you were logged in. (You could only read it when you were not logged in or logged in as a guest. :-) )
The site news is a very low traffic site. Subscribing to it means that announcements of WeBWorK events will also be emailed to you. You can unsubscribe by logging in, going to the "site news" and clicking "unsubscribe me".
There is also an RSS button which will give you the address of the WeBWorK site news RSS feed which you can place in a browser or in a custom RSS newsreader.
