Cannot send E-mail, uninitialized value $Mail::Sender::ver

On a new installation, Ubuntu 16.04, WebWork (the latest), I cannot send Email.

In site.conf

smtpServer=school smtp server, authorized by the schools IT office

smtpSender=my own address at school

I get this error.

Use of uninitialized value $Mail::Sender::ver in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/local/share/perl/5.22.1/Mail/Sender.pm line 1235, line 12.
