I just upgraded our WeBWorK server yesterday, and today I'm finding the following error in my httpd/error_log:

/home/httpd/webwork/system/scripts/gif2eps: are: command not found

I checked the path, and it's ok. The permissions also seem fine, since they are the same as all the other scripts.

Any idea what the issue might be, and how it can be fixed?

These error messages are piling up very quickly.

I'm not sure what the problem is or what your error message is saying (e.g. where does the "are:" come from?).

gif2eps runs several netpbm utilities and often, as the set up instructions state, this script has to be edited to work on your system. Also there seem to be many different versions of the netpbm utilities around (witness the trouble people have with black borders with latex2html) and these different versions take different switches.

I would compare your current gif2eps script with the version you were using with WeBWorK 1.6. Also you might try running the commands from the command line to make sure they are valid.

Gavin was able to track the problem down. A line that was meant to be commented out was not in the gif2eps script. Commenting out the line (#10) seems to have fixed the problem.

On another note, I have found very sporadic error messages of the following variety:

File does not exist: /home/httpd/html/webwork_system_html/applets/HotEqnBeanInfo.class

I see that there is a HotEqn.class and a HotEqn.zip in the correct directory. Is HotEqn.class supposed to be named HotEqnBeanInfo.class? Or is something entirely different going on?
