The mod_perl version is not in WeBWorK 1.8. There are two mod_perl
implementations, one at Rochester and one at Indiana. Bill Wheeler at
Indiana took the standard WeBWorK scripts (maybe version 1.6 or 1.7)
and converted them to run under mod_perl. That version is used at
Indiana. At Rochester we are writing a new version of WeBWorK which now
is called WeBWorK mod_perl and probably will be WeBWorK 2.0 when
released. It's in beta testing now and will be used for the first time
at Rochester this spring in a limited number of courses. Currently all
student actions run under mod_perl but all administrative actions
(every thing done from the professor page) run under WeBWorK 1.8.
Obviously, it's the student actions where you really need mod_perl's
speed. A course can be simultaneously run under both WeBWorK mod_perl
and WeBWorK 1.8 (in fact this is required) so students can choose which
version they want to use. This should give us pretty good feedback on
the new version. We will keep people posted as to how this experiment
goes and when the Rochester WeBWorK mod_perl version might be ready for
release.
