A problem being used at Dartmouth displays a graph using { image(insertGraph($orig_graph)) }, followed by text asking for domain and range of a function displayed as an image, followed by more text and some answer boxes. The images -- the graph and math displayed between ( and ) -- show up fine, but when the screen is first loaded the text is invisible. It reappears if you scroll all the way down and back up, but sometimes not completely, and if you repeat the scrolling it often disappears again. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks, Susan Diesel

Hi Susan,

This sounds like MSIE's peekaboo bug (do a Google search for "MSIE peekaboo"). So the first question is do you see this problem in another browser (e.g. Firefox)?

We had a hack in WeBWorK that fixed the peekaboo bug but it caused other problems with MSIE ( e.g. labels in multiple choice questions didn't appear). This was worst than the peekaboo bug so we removed it. We have not found a hack that fixes the bug and does not have bad side effects. The hack is very simple so if you don't have problems with lists, you could use it for a short time and then comment it out --- not very satisfatory but it might work.

Thanks, I thought this might be an instance of the bug. Firefox appears to display the problem fine, and we have advised students to switch.
