Hi, We would like to advertise our WeBWorK workshop entitled: Online Programming Assignments with WeBWorK that will take place at SIGCSE on Friday 3/3/2006 from 7 pm to 10 pm. Abstract: WeBWorK ( http://webwork.math.rochester.edu) is a free open-source formative web-based assessment system to generate, deliver and grade homeworks, and distribute their solutions. It emphasizes online feedback and retesting opportunities to master learning. It is currently used to teach mathematics (calculus, pre-calculus, algebra, applied, finite and discrete mathematics) and physics by over fifty institutions. This workshop is designed to introduce computer science instructors to the use of WeBWorK as an active learning, formative assessment and students' progress monitoring platform - to support the teaching of programming fundamentals. We are interested in building a community of WeBWorK instructors in the Computer Science field. We want also to get early feedback from the faculty who will participate in this workshop to inform further development of the project. We were used to use WeBWorK to deliver discrete mathematics homeworks. Our work is summarized in different publications: Oliver: an OnLine Inference and VERification system. Frontier In Education (IEEE FIE), USA, 2002. Wildenberg & Scharff. Supporting Discrete Structures Courses with a web-based tool. Poster. SIGCSE 2003, Reno, Nevada. Scharff & Wildenberg. Please register if you are interested (http://www.cs.rit.edu/~sigcse06/ ). Best regards, Christelle Scharff, Andrew Wildenberg, Olly Gotel, Richard Kline Pace University NY and Cornell College IA |
