In our quantitative reasoning class our TA's get a lot of complaint about the required precision for an answer. They are unable to tell me exactly which exercise is responsible for this. This is a lower level class so I suspect it's just the usual refusal of using "exact" expressions and fractions instead of a couple of digits from the calculator. Still to avoid the problem it would be nice if the answer summary at submission would show the type and the precision required from an answer. Maybe a button next to the answer line. This might reduce the amount of complain.

Hi,

This isn't really something which changes from problem to problem. I would have the TAs stress to students that to be safe, they need to have the first 5 non-zero digits of the number correct. Sometimes you get away with a little less, but if they want to be safe, give 5 significant digits.
