I have a student who typed in his answers on WeBWorks and were told they were correct on Wednesday, September 22nd. Later that evening, the student states that he logged back in and no longer had received credit for 4 of the 10 questions he had answered earlier in the evening. Was there a malfunction at this date and time that would have resulted in this situation? Is there a way that this might happen to students who enter answers?
I haven't seen this before. You might be able to investigate by logging in as an instructor and then looking at the Past Answers for that student on that assignment and see if any answers were recorded. It also indicates whether the answer was counted as correct or not.
(Could the student have accidentally logged in as a guest?)

I am wondering if it is a caching issue. The student may be getting a copy of the page from before he did all the problems. Check if YOU see the grades for those problems, and ask him to reload the page if you do.
Another possibility is that the student did some of the problems, then logged out (or timed out) and then logged back in as a guest. You might see of any of the guest accounts have answers recorded for those problems (and see if the login times correspond to when he claimed he was working). You can find the login.log file in the course's "logs" directory using the File Manager (go up a level and then down into logs).
Otherwise, check the past answers, as Brian suggests.
