Library Browser v2 Issues

Hi,

I recently set up a WeBWorK server on an iMac running OS X 10.6.8. I got the WeBWorK software using svn.

The system seems to be fine, except for two fundamental issues related to Library Browser 2:
  1. Dragging problems from the Library panel to the Target Set (or vice versa) doesn't work. (I've tried Safari, Firefox and Chrome.)
  2. MathJax display mode doesn't work. It works outside the Library Browser, but within the browser I simply see [math] in place of the desired content.
I assume I'm missing something, but I'm not sure what. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Louis

Library browser 2 is a beta proof of concept and has known issues with firefox,
-- usually I can get it to work with safari and chrome.

Library browser 3 is a subsequent proof of concept and is more likely to serve
as a platform for further development this summer, although if there are aspects of library browser 2 you like you should let us know so that we can incorporate those features during development.

Library browser 3 can be obtained following instructions at:
http://webwork.maa.org/moodle/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=2692#p5946

You can also test it out at https://test.webwork.maa.org/webwork2/maa101, 102, etc.  using the usual profa login and password.

Most likely the reason you can't get the mathJax display to work  in the library browser is that the link to the mathJax repository on your machine (which is buried in the javascript code in htdocs/js) is not pointing to the right place -- portability is still an issue with that particular code.

thanks for the feedback on library browser 2, let us know what you think of library browser 3

You must have a magic touch regarding Library Browser 2. I just tried using it at https://test.webwork.maa.org/webwork2/maa101 with the latest versions of Safari and Firefox, and simply could not get drag-and-drop to work. (I was able to drag-and-drop using Library Browser 3.)

I think I'd like the panel-to-panel dragging process in Library Browser 2 more than the corresponding method in Library Browser 3, but unfortunately I can't actually test LB v2 (and haven't really had time to play with LB v3).

Does LB v2 work for anyone? If so, with what browser?

Hi Louis,

Using Chrome  Version 19.0.1084.46 on OSX 10.7.3 the LBv2 works for me, with one oddity, adding problems to the selected set works (they are given a blue border when they are added) but the target set window on the left is not updated.  However, if I "Save Changes" and then view the set the problems I added to indeed appear in the set.  Here's a quick video of what I just did:

It turns out that your post is very timely because there is a lot of development work planned for June to try to improve the UI of the instructor interface for webwork; one of the particular projects included in this plan is to "finish" the new library browser.  It would be very helpful if you and others had a look at them and submitted suggestions, desired features, etc. (On this thread would be great and/or started new such threads for other aspects of the webwork instructor interface (classlist editor, homework sets editor, etc.)  )

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

I'd call that more than an "oddity." wink

In any case, that's the same behavior I have seen with other browsers. So I guess I have the magic touch too.

(I may not be remembering correctly, but I think the left panel was updated correctly when I first tried this out about a year ago.)

Thanks,
Louis
