Is there a command for italic text analogous to BBOLD/EBOLD (aside from putting the text in math mode)?

Similarly, is there a WeBWork construct for centering something (aside from making a displayed equation which throws LaTeX into math mode)?

Both of these things look easy to implement.

Neither of these exist but as you mention, they would be easy to implement following the method of BBOLD/EBOLD in PGbasicmacros.pl.
