I am a mathematics professor at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, with over 30 years of teaching experience. I hold a Licentiate degree (5-year program) in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications from the University of Aveiro (1986), a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Coimbra (1991), and a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Aveiro (2006).
Before joining the Navy, I completed a one-year internship at Portugal Telecom Innovation Laboratories in Aveiro. I then worked as a software engineer in the Portuguese Navy, serving as a lieutenant from 1987 to 1989. After my service in the Navy, I became the director of INFORTEC, a professional school in Porto, Portugal.
I have a strong interest in using technology to enhance mathematics education. My experience with WeBWorK includes designing interactive problem sets to support student learning and exploring its potential for online assessments. I am also interested in customizing WeBWorK for different courses and improving its integration into mathematics curricula.
My research interests include Calculus, mathematical and numerical analysis, mathematical modeling, and applied optimization. Additionally, I have published work in the field of Teletraffic engineering.
I am always open to collaborating on innovative approaches to teaching and learning mathematics.
