sounds like you might be asking about one of the problems that has been
assigned to you on a homework set. It is difficult to know how to
respond to these, as we don't know what has been covered in your
course, or the approach being taken by your instructor. In such cases,
it is best to consult your professor, who will know much better the
kind of hint that will help you best. In terms of your specific question, it will depend on the way the problem is written. It probably wants you to enter an interval or a union of intervals. Remember that you can use infinity as an endpoint of an interval. Now think about how you might be able to use a union of two intervals to write all reals other than one number. That should give you the idea of how to deal with more than one number being left out. Prof. Cervone |
