Hi,

Below is a copy of an email exchange about an "Internal apreq error" in case someone else sees this error. Note that in the end, it was a problem with the internet provider.

Arnie

Hi Arie,

Great. Thanks for letting us know. I'm going to post this message (which contains the  error messages, etc) on the forum so that if others have the same problem, they will see the solution.

Hello,

I talked with the Internet  provider, it looks like it was their problem. They blocked some contents from the WeBWorK site.
Now it seems they fixed it, and everything works smooth.

Thank you very-very much for your great help !

Sincerely yours,
Arie

Hi Arie,

Hmm..I'm stumped...My next suspicion is that maybe we're not handling language headers correctly.  I assume that you have your preferred language for displaying pages set to Hebrew.  Can you check what happens when you change it to English?  Unfortunately for this hypothesis, I changed my preferred language to Hebrew and could not reproduce the error.

Thanks,
Jason

Thanks Arie.

I don't have an idea what is happening.  I searched through the error.log for "ap_get_brigade" and the only places this shows up is with your connection.  Very strange.  When you have a chance, try connecting from a different provider (e.g. from home or the university, which ever is different) but I'm really just trying to think of different things to try.

Yes, in Chrome, the Encoding is set to Unicode (UTF-8).

(I tested it in Mozilla FireFox, the same problem exists).

OK.  Thanks.

Just to make sure we are using the same setting, on Chrome under settings (the wrench icon), Tools, Encoding, I'm using Unicode (UTF-8). Is that what your setting is?

Hi Arie,

This is a long shot but on the web I saw:

http://www.apache-httpd.com/list/39/972735.html
Hello, I am running apache2-mpm-prefork on ubuntu 11.04 with mod_perl. I have
googled as much as possible and it seems that in most cases its when there
is an upload that times out. I am not uploading anything but small json
objects. I only see this in my logs I have not been able to recreate it. The
one person I know who has this issue uses ie9 but google chrome is fine. Any
suggestions? I am at a loss

so try this on several different browsers.

I also do not know about any changes in the internet infrastructure.

(Regarding the character set, I see the same error message when I try to see the problems from the MAAtutorial set in your course in the images mode.)

All,

The "Use of uninitialized value $string in substitution (s///) at /opt/webwork/webwork2/lib/Apache/WeBWorK.pm line 321." in the error msg in the apache2 error.log refers to

=item htmlEscape($string)
Protect characters that would be interpreted as HTML entities. Then, replace
line breaks with HTML "<br />" tags.
=cut
sub htmlEscape($) {
        my ($string) = @_;
        $string = encode_entities($string);
        $string =~ s|\n|<br />|g;
        return $string;
}

I don't think this is meaningful (not sure where  htmlEscape is called) but as a long shot could it be there is some problem with character sets since Arie is in Israel?

Aria, has anything changed on your end recently?

I assume the real error is "ap_get_brigade failed during prefetch".  Googling this error brings up a few things but nothing I saw that gave a cause or solution but I only searched for a few seconds.

Arie, just to make sure it's a system thing (although a strange one since I don't have a problem) and not something with your course, try to do something in my course (https://courses.webwork.maa.org/webwork2/pizer_course/). I added you as a prof (aporan/aporan).

Anybody else have ideas?

Dear Professor Pizer,

Thank you very much for your answer.
In Classlist Editor I tried to perform the following action:

()  Show [users who match] [Or-Yehuda] in their [Section]

[Take Action]

And I get the similar error message (shown below).
Is it possible that the error message is caused by my side ? It appears as a server error.

Please, excuse me for disturbing you so much.
Sincerely yours,
Arie

Hi Arie,

I just went onto your course (https://courses.webwork.maa.org/webwork2/ono_mathB/instructor/users/) and, using classlist, edited the "test1" user adding test1 as their first name. I figured that was pretty safe. I didn't get an error. Please try again and let us know if the problem persists.
