Issues with upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04?

I connected to our WeBWorK server yesterday for the first time in a while and got this message:

Your current Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE) is no longer supported
since 2014-08-07. Security updates for critical parts (kernel
and graphics stack) of your system are no longer available.
For more information, please see:
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/1204_HWE_EOL
To upgrade to a supported (or longer supported) configuration:

* Upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS by running:
sudo do-release-upgrade
OR
* Install a newer HWE version by running:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-trusty linux-image-generic-lts-trusty
and reboot your system.
Maybe this message has been given to me before and I just overlooked it, because surely I have connected since 2014-08-07. Anyway, I asked our server maintainer to upgrade to 14.04. He tried this morning, and it broke the WeBWorK installation. (He had taken a snapshot so we are back to 12.04 and doing fine.)

Are there known issues with upgrading to 14.04?

14.04 LTS is what we are recommending for ubuntu users.  What are the symptoms of the break down?

Check whether this upgrade switches you from apache 2.2  to apache 2.4.  There are different WeBWorK configuration files for those two versions of apache.

Also what version of WeBWorK are you using?

Hi Alex,

14.04 LTS is the recommended version. The virtual machine images and iso's for
2.9 and 2.10 all use 14.04.

I bet Mike is correct that you have to use a different config file.
The instructions
http://webwork.maa.org/wiki/Installation_Manual_for_2.8_on_Ubuntu_12.04#Configuring_Apache
call for using webwork.apache2-config.dist
whereas
the instructions
http://webwork.maa.org/wiki/Installation_Manual_for_2.10_on_Ubuntu_14.04#Configuring_Apache
call for using  webwork.apache2.4-config.dist
