New installation, can't get all on screen menus and options right

Hi,

I am new to WeBWorK, and this is my first installation.

I followed the instructions at https://webwork.maa.org/wiki/Installation_Manual_for_2.15_on_Ubuntu_20.04_Server

and after some directory permissions fixes it looks WeBWorK is running.  But it looks for some reason I can't get all menus and options displayed.

See both screenshots below. Also I can't change admin password from the GUI, I had to do it from the shell.

What did I miss? :)

Thanks,

Val

This looks right.  You need to create your first course. See e.g. https://webwork.maa.org/wiki/Installation_Manual_for_2.16_on_Ubuntu#Create_Your_First_Actual_Course

Note you should first install the problem libraries if you haven't done that step yet.

Hi Arnold,

Thanks for the reply, I fixed my issue, I was following the 2.15 installation instructions instead of 2.16. Thanks for the problem libraries reminder, I will install them.

Thanks,
Val

The current version of WeBWorK is 2.16, so the installation instructions for 2.15 are missing several steps that are required to run the latest version of WeBWorK.  You should consult https://webwork.maa.org/wiki/Installation_Manual_for_2.16_on_Ubuntu for installing the current version.  In particular, then missing menus are probably a symptom of not having the required javascript, which is covered in https://webwork.maa.org/wiki/Installation_Manual_for_2.16_on_Ubuntu#Obtaining_Javascript_Libraries.

Hi,

Another question.
Since I followed the 2.15 instructions where I configured MySQL (instead of MariaDB) server with "default-storage-engine = myisam" . Is this going to be OK with 2.16 or I have to change it?

Thanks again!

MySQL should be fine and has been the default for many years.  MariaDB is the open source version of MySQL and may have a few advantages.
