Hello, this is Yavor Markov from Rutgers writing.

I would like to ask which is going to be the main Linux distribution used in the development and testing of the new WebWork versions in the near future. I am aware that WebWork has been successfully installed on a number of Lunux distributions, even though a RedHat one seemed to be the most popular. Now that RedHat is discontinuing support for 9.0 soon, perhaps Fedora, or Debian, or Mandrake will become a system of choice?

Thank you for your thoughts on that issue.

We at Ohio State will be switching to Redhat Enterprise Server.

While I doubt it will ever become the distribution of choice, Dartmouth has always run Debian on all its servers including WeBWorK.  We have had good results with WW 1.4 - 1.9, and I am now in the process of trying to setup WW-2.0pr2.

We also are out of the mainstream in terms of type of linux, but have been satisfied with slackware for our servers.

Debian on my server(I did run redhat until middle of fall 2002 and that fall I got hacked into twice, the second time the course mat295 was deleted by the hacker!  Now I'm much more security concious.  I had a friend running debian in industry and he, thankfully, helped me set it up.)
